Scott Copeland took a different route to the Texas Music Scene than most of the songwriters you’ve heard on the radio. He didn’t even start playing guitar until he was 24 years old, although, Scott was always a writer. Scott found his musical calling in Stillwater, Oklahoma while attending Oklahoma State University on a football scholarship where he played on the same team as Heisman Trophy winning running back, Barry Sanders. It was there he met Mike McClure, Cody Canada, Stoney Larue, and Jason Boland. He later got the nerve to give McClure a tape of twenty songs he’d written and six of those songs ended up being recorded by McClure and the other Stillwater crew. It gave Scott Copeland all the confidence he needed.
For the last 20 years, Scott has been writing and playing songs enjoyed by fans of the Texas music scene everywhere. Many well-known artists within the music scene have recorded and released his original songs. Some of these artists include: Great Divide, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Mike McClure, Jason Eady, Stoney Larue, and Casey Donahew. Scott has written several songs that broke into the top ten on the Texas Music Chart and even had a number one hit with “Ramblin’ Kind” and a number 3 hit with “Hunter S.”
A consummate performer, Scott has shared the stage with some of the big names in Texas music like Jason Boland, Pat Green, Cody Canada, Adam Hood, Randy Rogers, Walt Wilkins, Brandon Jenkins, and Wade Bowen. He has also been opening support for greats like Leon Russell, Billy Joe Shaver, Todd Snider, James McMurtry, Fred Eaglesmith, Ryan Bingham, and Ray Wylie Hubbard. Indeed, any in-depth look into Texas music will reveal the name Scott Copeland in a variety of places. With his current band, Scott is poised to support his latest self-titled album, produced by Matt Smith of Ryan Bingham and the Dead Horses, at venues across Texas and the Southwest region. Sometimes funny and raunchy, sometimes sad and dark, but always professional, Scott Copeland is ready to play his songs to anyone that will listen.
